Reiew: NoteSync

Wow, it's been a while since i've last updated but really, i have like a ton of things that i want to write about. yeah, i have a myriad of pictures of products and screenshots but i just don't have the time to write :)) well anyway, for today, i'll be talking about NoteSync and why you should try it out ;)

A bit of a background story first: the only reason i tried looking for a to-do listing thing is because mico suggested we had one that would sync with each other. so you might tell me 'oh that's easy' but it wasn't -- i'm using ubuntu while he's on windows 8 so there are really a limited number of apps that could cater to both. add to the fact that it should be synced together, so my options were narrowed down further (i couldn't pay) until i found Notesync.

Notesync employs the power of GoogleDocs -- basically what it does is it makes it easy to make lists or notes about something, then it gets synced and saved in your GoogleDocs account which is pretty smart :)

they're all here!

So i just simply made a GoogleDocs account that i'd be sharing with mico (so we share one account), both of us downloaded the software in our own respective computers (me on ubuntu and him on his laptop with windows), logged in with the same account and presto -- instant shared to-do list :)

the only settings you'll see on this beauty

i like how simple it is to make lists/take notes and when i hit the sync buttons, it only takes seconds (depends on how much you put anyway). It also syncs automatically every few minutes so whenever mico added something else, i'd see it. there's no notification on this one though, so if you'll ever try this out for working on projects, do tell your partner that you added something or else he might not notice.

another good thing about it is that it's also on android. personally, i don't own an android anything but i think nowadays people get a big kick with things that connect both your desktop and your phone so you have all your things wherever you go :)

downloading Notesync for ubuntu wasn't complicated at all either -- although it's on Adobe Air (which we know has been cut from updates since... well, for a really long time now), you can still use it on the last update and then follow the instructions here to stop Adobe Air's automatic update so Notesync won't crash on you ("What is the best way to get NoteSync working on Linux?").

there's nothing really at all fancy here, but the beauty of this lies on it's simplicity, ease of use, accessibility and let's not forget just how clean the interface looks :)

you can minimize it to make it into a small green bar that won't get in the way of your work ;)

I use NoteSync to basically just list down all the things i want to do and mico reads them and adds more stuff. I also add in the lists of things i should read, movies we should watch, etc. anything basically :) So if you want to try something else than your old to-do list app, if you're fine without it having any alarms or  reminders and you just want to keep things simple or not forget anything, then this should be in your list. (don't forget that it's cross-platform! :D)
